This fifth installment of the biblical history of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah is titled "Israel and Judah: 5. David Desires to Build a Temple." King David challenges God in a way that almost had life-threatening consequences for him. This is surprising because David did not want to displease God, but he let arrogance get the better of him. It will not be for the last time.

This month's article is the fourth installment of the biblical history of the kingdoms, "Israel and Judah: 4. The Ark Arrives in Jerusalem." King David fulfills his desire to bring the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. Generally things go according to plan, but there is one problem at the end that David deals with, and I think he was wrong in the way he handled the situation. However, I am not a king involved with power politics among and between family members. Remember that even though David was a man after God's own heart (Acts 13:22), his heart was still deceitful above all things, as is everyone's heart(Jeremiah 17:9). David did not have God's Holy Spirit resident within him as you can have today.

This month's article is the third installment of the biblical history of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. Read "Israel and Judah: 3. David, Philistines, and Uzzah." King David is still center stage as the larger-than-life character who, on one hand, is a man who is deeply meditative and profoundly loves God. On the other hand, David can easily be perceived as a killer, a mass murderer, an adulterer, and power hungry, even a beast-like person.

This month's article is the second on the history of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. As you read you will be surprised that King David is an observer of the events that propel him to be king of all the twelve tribes of Israel. He reacts but is not proactive. As always, the brutality and inhumanity of people in those ancient times is stunning. David himself wrote: "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me." (Psalm 51:5). However, is it much different today?

  August 2014 Newsletter

This month begins a series of articles on the history of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. The first of the series is "Israel and Judah: 1. Saul and David." I will present over several months a detailed account of the second of the Former Prophets, the "Book of the Kingdoms." Within the Old Testament are three grand divisions: the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms (or the Writings). These are so identified in Luke 24:44.

I wrote this month's article "The Exact Time of Christ's Return." I hope it will clear up some misunderstandings about the resurrections to spiritual life and glory. Although many of us know the truth about when Christ will come for us believers, we tend to concentrate on the world-wide event of His Second Coming. In this article I focus on your resurrection from the dead, the sequence of events, and what will happen to you during that glorious event.

"The Book of Malachi" is this month's article by Dr. Ernest L. Martin. Malachi is the last of the Twelve Minor Prophets and it contains at its end the well-known prophecy about the Elijah to come. We know from Jesus that the prophecy about Elijah actually refers to two individuals (Matthew 17:10?13). One "Elijah to come" came some 420+ years after the Book of Malachi was written during the time of Christ. A second "Elijah to come" will be present in our near future and he will "restore all things." By all indications, all three Elijahs, the original and the two prophesied "to come" by Malachi, were and will be very unique individuals with compelling and powerful personalities.

The prophecy of Zechariah is the same type of prophecy as the Book of Daniel and the Book of Revelation. They are what scholars call apocalyptic prophecies. Those are prophecies heavily imbued with symbolic teachings. That is exactly what we find in this Book of Zechariah, the 11th of the Twelve Minor Prophets. The final three: Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi, all were prophets who lived just after the Babylonian captivity.

  April 2014 Newsletter

This month's article "Book of Haggai, Time Prophecies," presents a perspective of the Book of Haggai different from last month's article. The time prophecies of Haggai are interwoven with the prophecies of Haggai, Zechariah, and with other older prophecies of Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Daniel. Dr. Martin's analysis is unique as he shows how God exercises His sovereign right to change times and seasons (Daniel 2:20?22). This newsletter gives a sequence of events and historical background during the early reign of Darius, King of Persia. The Temple is the focus of Haggai's prophecies.

  March 2014 Newsletter

"The Book of Haggai" is the article for March 2014. This small 2-chapter, 38 verse book of the Bible is the 10th of the Twelve Minor Prophets. Haggai is on one hand remarkably precise in being dated with corresponding non-biblical dates, and at the same time it has chronological problems. This is because the dating takes place in relation to the reign of King Darius of Persia.

This month's article is "Oz Internet Radio Show, Part 2." It is the second half of the two-hour interview on Paul Jamieson's internet radio show. In Part 2 the topics get even stranger, including a question whether Christ could be on earth as a human being at the present time. I was taken aback somewhat by such a question. I hope you find my answers informative and useful to some of the important questions in life. The discussion expanded to discuss the nature of death, as well as other topics such as Satan, the antichrist, UFOs in history, missionaries, the salvation of all, Armageddon, and other "strange" subjects.

  January 2014 Newsletter

I have written before about starting a topic of conversation with friends, and even acquaintances. Simply ask them, "What's the strangest thing that ever happened to you?" You likely will receive interesting answers. Some will give you several answers. What you will find is most everyone has had at least one very strange event in their lives. This month's article is "Oz Internet Radio Show." I was interviewed for two hours on an internet radio show with a different format from The Byte Show programs. During the Oz Internet Radio Show (Oz is short for Australia), the conversation went from the nature of God, to the nature of man, then death, conspiracies, occult rituals, and the antichrist. The discussion became strange. What I say may surprise you.
